17/02/2025 – Charlie went down to Groundworks in Leigh to give a talk to the ‘Roots To Wellbeing’ team – but what is that, exactly?
‘Roots To Wellbeing’ – a free, 10 week programme for over 19s (Under 19s, 19s and up to 25s can go see ‘The King’s Trust’). Ran 2 days a week, the intent is to help you increase your chances of finding work, improve your health and your mental wellbeing. This is done through exploring the 5 Ways To Wellbeing and getting out and helping the community. Not only this, but you can meet new people and make new friends!
So, what does that have to do with Healthwatch? Well, on Monday the 17th of Feburary, Charlie (Our comms and engagement officer!) nipped on over to Leigh to say hi, and give a talk about what Healthwatch is – much like we do for The Kings Trust, a similar programme delivered by Groundworks. So, that’s exactly what he did. He sat down, gave out some unbreakable rulers to everyone (One member of the course even tried to snap it, but our rulers are truly impossible to snap!) and got talking. He told them about how Healthwatch can walk you through the NHS complaint process using our advocacy service, how we can take your feedback and use it for reports and how we take on volunteers too. This is simplifying it, in-between there bits and bobs – little side chats, flyers, bookmarks and more! Even how one lady used to work at Sunshine House, where we’re based!
Roots To Wellbeing then. So, it’s completely free, ran by Groundworks – a Wigan Borough based charity – and is there to help you get the skills and knowledge you need. It’s ran in Wigan Town Centre and Leigh Town Centre (2 separate groups for the areas, you don’t have to journey around and about). Interested? Send an email to Groundworks at [email protected] or call at 01942 821 444!
