Find out more about getting the coronavirus vaccine in the Borough.

The Coronavirus vaccine has been approved as safe and effective, and the first phase of the NHS COVID-19 vaccination programme has started within some hospitals.

Both the Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines are now available. Both vaccines have been shown to be safe and offer high levels of protection, and have been given regulatory approval by the MHRA.

Vaccination has begun in key locations in Wigan Borough, starting with those people aged over 80.

When it is the right time, people will receive an invitation to come forward.  You do not need to contact anyone at this stage to book your vaccine.  This may be through a telephone call or letter.

People over the age of 80 are being prioritised for the vaccine at this time.

For more information on how groups are being prioritised, please click here.

People are being offered vaccinations in line with recommendations from the independent JCVI.  The NHS are contacting people when it is their turn.  People will need an appointment to get their vaccine; most people will be invited by letter from their GP practice or the national programme.

If you or your family member are in one of the current priority groups, they will be on the priority list and will get invited as soon as there is a vaccine for them over the coming weeks.

Vaccination Centres

There are currently two vaccination clinics delivering the vaccine in the Borough - one in Wigan, and one in Leigh. More are expected to open soon.

Only people with an appointment can get vaccinated at the clinics, so please don’t just turn up.  People are being contacted directly when they are eligible, so when your turn comes, you will be contacted.
