Organ Donation Week 2021
The aim of this campaign is to inspire millions of family conversations and registrations for organ and tissue donation, by putting children and young people at the heart of the message in 2021.
Families are always involved before organ donation goes ahead, so it's encouraged that everyone in the family, whatever your age, has a conversation about organ donation, so that when the time comes your family are certain about what you want.
Key messages
- Families will always be involved before organ donation goes ahead
- 9 in 10 families support organ donation going ahead if they knew what their loved one wanted
- Whatever you decide, the best thing you can do is talk with your loved ones to give them the certainty they need to support your decision
- Talk to your loved ones about organ donation
- Leave them certain
- You can register your decision on the NHS Organ Donation Register at organdonation.nhs.uk
Take the heart walk
Join friends and family to show your support for organ donation and take on a ‘heart walk’!
If you’ve kept up your daily exercise habit, take a walk, run or cycle in the shape of a heart, kidney, lungs, whatever you choose!
Switch on your GPS tracker or use an app such as Strava, Fitbit, MayMyRun, etc to capture your route
Take a screen grab of the map of your walk and share it on social media with @NHSOrganDonor #OrganDonationWeek
It’s a perfect opportunity to talk about organ donation while you’re out and make sure YOUR family all knows what each other wants.
There's also the opportunity to take part in the Westfield Health Virtual Donor Run organised by Transplant Sport and the Westfield Health British Transplant Games. Run or walk up to 5km in memory of organ donors and to celebrate donor families. Or you can Join the Journey with the Noth West Organ Donation Team as they Race for Recipients!
