NHS Offering Mental Heath Support Through 111

For national suicide prevention day, we're sharing a new way you can get help in your time of need. The NHS are now offering a full, 24/7 mental health crisis support line through the 111 phone number service. In crisis? Call 111.
Worried man on the phone

As of Friday the 6th of September, the NHS are now offering a mental health support option through 111, for those in mental health crisis. This helpline is open to all, kids, adults, the elderly, those in crisis and even those who are not - who are just concerned for the wellbeing of another and wish to refer. This is a big upgrade on the previous system, where various local health systems had their own separate phone lines. One centralised system should make it much more effective. To use this service, simply call 111 on a phone, then ask for the mental health service. From there, you'll be referred to a a mental health professional who will guide you through your problem. This guidance can vary, from a simple chat to setting up a meeting for face-to-face support, or even referral and access to alternate services or safe havens.

Of course this isn't the only service available to you. There are plenty of ways to seek mental help, through the Samaritans helpline, a local support group or even the NHS Talking Therapy Services. These are available for those with other mental conditions, like anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and PTSD, and you can refer yourself to this online too or through your GP.
