A Week in A & E

Throughout August 2019 we visited Royal Albert Edward Infirmary to collect people’s experiences about what services, if any, they had contacted before visiting the Emergency Care Centre.

Overview

The purpose of engagement work by Healthwatch Wigan and Leigh to get a better understanding of how local people experience local health and social care services. The aim of this project was to understand the circumstances as to why people were visiting A & E. This project had two overall aims:

  1. To test if patients are getting the right treatment, in the right place at the right time for their presenting condition, and the quality of the care provided.
  2. To observe the environment, ensuring there are appropriate facilities and professional / compassionate culture.
